Happy Productions has secured and is presenting exclusively for the first time in Greece “McNeal”, the theatrical event that shook Broadway and marked the long-awaited theatrical debut of Oscar-winner Robert Downey Jr.
Pulitzer Prize-winning Ayad Akhtar ‘s masterpiece, which was staged with great success at New York’s Lincoln Center , was the absolute talk-of-the-town of the theater season, garnering rave reviews for its thematic boldness and stage innovation.
The play will be presented at the NEOS AKADIMOS Theater , with Pygmalion Dadakaridis, after the two-year sweeping success of “The Whale” , taking on the iconic role of Jacob McNeal . The play is directed by the acclaimed Christos Sougaris , in his first collaboration with Dadakaridis.
At the center of the story is Jacob McNeal, a famous, controversial, and self-destructive writer at the peak of his career, in contention for the Nobel Prize in Literature. But as his relationship with his son, his past, and his own creative process begin to unravel, McNeal is confronted with a new and terrifying reality: Artificial Intelligence.
“McNeal” is a sharp psychological and digital thriller that sharply poses the most critical questions of our time. It speaks to power, vanity, family, creation and the limits of artistic ownership in a world where data, words and human thought itself can now be reproduced and manipulated in seconds.

A HIGH-TECH THEATRE EXPERIENCE
“McNeal” is not a conventional theatrical performance, but a high-tech stage experience. Using cutting-edge video design, digital projections, special effects and deepfake technology, the production creates a stunning world where reality, memory and artificial intelligence are constantly confused.
The stage of the NEW ACADEMY is transformed into a digital labyrinth of images, data and illusions, in which the audience does not simply follow a story, but is completely immersed in McNeal’s disturbed universe.
The music for the performance is by the great musician and composer Fotis Siotas, creating a dark, electrifying and deeply cinematic soundscape that constantly converses with the digital and psychological world of the play.
THE ACTORS
Alongside Pygmalion Dadakaridis, Giota Festa in the role of Steffi Banic, McNeil’s agent, and an excellent troupe—Georgina Paleothodorou, Mariza Tsari, Dimitris Serfas, Aliki Andriomenou, and Marita Gagani—compose a universe full of tension, mystery, and emotional conflicts, where the boundaries between humans and artificial intelligence become increasingly blurred.
