There’s something irresistibly nostalgic about the Choco Taco — that perfect blend of crisp shell, creamy ice cream, rich chocolate, and crunchy nuts. Even though the original treat disappeared from shelves, its cult following never faded. Now, the Choco Taco is having a revival in home kitchens, where you can customize every layer and make it even better than the classic.
Ingredients
6 waffle tortillas or thin waffle cones shaped into taco shells
3 cups vanilla ice cream (slightly softened)
1 1/2 cups dark or milk chocolate chips
2 tbsp coconut oil (for smooth melting)
1/2 cup crushed peanuts or almonds
Optional
caramel or chocolate sauce for drizzling
Instructions
1 Shape the shells.
If using waffle cones, warm them slightly and gently press into a taco shape. If using waffle tortillas, fold them over a rolling pin until set.
2 Fill with ice cream.
Scoop softened vanilla ice cream into each shell, pressing gently to fill the curve. Place the filled tacos on a tray and freeze for 20 minutes.
3 Prepare the chocolate coating.
Melt chocolate chips with coconut oil until smooth and glossy.
4 Dip the tacos.
Remove tacos from the freezer and dip the top edge into the melted chocolate. Immediately sprinkle crushed nuts on top.
5 Final freeze.
Return tacos to the freezer for at least 30 minutes until fully set.
6 Serve.
Enjoy straight from the freezer or drizzle with caramel/chocolate sauce for extra indulgence.
