Ahead of this special occasion, SINON had the opportunity to speak with can’t be blue about performing in Italy, their musical identity, the moments that have shaped them since debut, and what they hope listeners around the world will take away from their music.
What does performing at one of Italy’s biggest music festivals mean to you, and what are you hoping to take away from the experience?
It’s a huge milestone for us — our first performance in Europe, and a long way from the 40-seat room we started in. We hope to leave with a real connection to the crowd, something that makes us want to come back.
You’re the opening act for ATEEZ at Rock in Roma. What does this opportunity mean to can’t be blue, and which artist would you love to collaborate with next?
It’s a genuinely exciting opportunity to share a stage with an artist of that scale. As for future collaborations, we’re open to anyone whose music pushes us somewhere new.
What do you think is the one thing that makes can’t be blue different from everyone else?
Probably the way we relate to melancholy. Rather than hiding sadness or dressing it up, we try to let that feeling exist honestly in our songs and on stage, exactly as it is. That honesty, combined with writing and making everything ourselves, is probably what sets us apart.
Has there been a moment since your debut that made you realize, “We’re really becoming who we want to be”?
Releasing our first full album this June felt like that moment — hearing it as a complete body of work, in our own voices, and realizing how far we’d come from a small club room two years ago.
If someone discovers can’t be blue for the first time this summer, what do you hope they’ll remember most about the band?
That we felt real to them — not a performance, but a genuine moment shared.
