Are people born evil, or do their circumstances shape them into it? That’s the haunting question at the heart of the new thriller “Dear X,” starring Kim You Jung and Kim Young Dae. The series explores morality in the darkest corners of human survival. After all, when life hands you lemons, you’re told to make lemonade—but what if those lemons are rotten, poisoned, and deadly? In a world where it’s kill or be killed, how far will someone go to stay alive?
Baek Ah Jin (Kim You Jung), one of South Korea’s most celebrated young actresses, may look like she has it all—beauty, fame, and adoration. But her childhood was a nightmare. With a cruel father and an alcoholic mother, Ah Jin grew up knowing she could rely on no one but herself. Even after her father brutally murders her mother, she finds no escape from the world’s cruelty. That’s when she crosses paths with Yoon Jun Seo (Kim Young Dae), a gentle, naive boy raised under the suffocating control of his greedy mother—a woman just as ruthless as Ah Jin’s father, though far better at hiding it.
Years later, Ah Jin and Jun Seo appear to be ordinary high school students. But appearances deceive. Ah Jin, the model student with a dazzling smile, conceals a chilling truth: beneath the surface, she is a calculating sociopath who views people only as tools to achieve her goals. Jun Seo, meanwhile, remains the timid, kind-hearted boy he always was—making their dynamic all the more unsettling.
